Trevor Boone Joins Gearcheck as Advisor

We’re excited to welcome Trevor Boone, owner of Seattle’s Emerald City Guitars, as an advisor to Gearcheck.

Trevor represents a new generation of passionate guitar enthusiasts who are reshaping how the vintage instrument world operates. Raised in the shop his father, Jay Boone, founded in Pioneer Square in 1996, he grew up surrounded by guitars, musicians, and the hunt for instruments that matter. What began as childhood road trips to pawn shops, estate sales, and antique stores across the West has evolved into one of the most respected high-end vintage guitar businesses in the country—one that deals regularly in original 1950s and 1960s Gibson Les Paul “Bursts,” rare Fenders, and other top-tier American instruments while still remaining deeply connected to players and the music itself.

Under Trevor’s leadership, Emerald City Guitars has distinguished itself not only by the quality of its inventory but by its commitment to storytelling and authenticity. The shop has invested heavily in documenting the lives of the instruments it handles—hiring a full-time videographer, producing ongoing content series that follow the search for rare pieces, and capturing the human stories behind provenance, previous owners, and the path each guitar has taken. In an industry long reliant on incomplete paper trails and private knowledge, Trevor and his team are building a more transparent, internet-native model that treats history, condition, and narrative as essential parts of an instrument’s value.

A working musician and left-handed player himself (frontman of the Seattle band The Hollers), Trevor approaches these instruments first as tools for making music and only second as collectibles. That dual perspective—equal parts collector’s eye and player’s sensibility—informs everything he does. He understands that the most meaningful guitars are the ones whose stories remain intact and whose authenticity can be trusted across decades and ownership changes.

For Gearcheck, Trevor’s perspective is especially valuable. His experience bridging traditional expertise with modern content-driven outreach, his insistence on rigorous provenance research, and his clear focus on the music itself align directly with our mission: creating organized, durable, and trustworthy digital records so that significant instruments can carry their full histories forward. As the vintage market continues to evolve, voices like his help ensure the next chapter prioritizes integrity, transparency, and the living relationship between player and instrument.
