Steve Earle uses Gearcheck to stay connected to his collection
Every guitar carries weight: the songs written on it, the miles traveled, the moments it accompanied.
Gearcheck

We are honored that Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Steve Earle has chosen Gearcheck to help organize and preserve the records and stories of his guitar collection.
Steve Earle stands as one of the most distinctive and influential voices in American music. A protégé of Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, he broke through with the landmark 1986 album Guitar Town and has spent decades writing songs that refuse easy categorization — blending country, rock, folk, and bluegrass with unflinching storytelling. He has earned three Grammy Awards for Best Contemporary Folk Album (The Revolution Starts… Now, Washington Square Serenade, and Townes), along with numerous nominations, and his songs have been recorded by artists including Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Emmylou Harris, and many others. Beyond the stage and studio, he is an author, actor, and longtime activist whose work continues to resonate across generations.
Earle has long been known as a working musician with a deep, practical relationship to his instruments. He has spoken openly about collecting guitars over the years — favoring certain styles and eras that feel right under his hands — and about the way instruments move through a life of writing, touring, and starting over. Every guitar carries weight: the songs written on it, the miles traveled, the people and moments it has accompanied.
Gearcheck provides a clear, secure way to keep those records and stories organized. From provenance and ownership history to photographs, notes, and personal context, the platform helps ensure that the full life of each instrument remains intact and accessible.
We are proud to support Steve Earle in documenting a collection shaped by a lifetime of songs, stories, and the road — and we are honored to assist him along his continuing musical journey.
