Jim Messina Joins Gearcheck as Advisor

Few people have spent more time at the center of where instruments become recordings, memories, and culture.

Gearcheck

Jim Messina Joins Gearcheck as Advisor
Jim Messina, musician, songwriter, and producer.

We are pleased to welcome Jim Messina — musician, songwriter, guitarist, producer, and engineer — as an advisor to Gearcheck.

Messina's career spans more than six decades at the center of American music. He began as a recording engineer and producer before joining Buffalo Springfield, contributing as both musician and producer on the band's final album. With Richie Furay he co-founded Poco, helping define the emerging country-rock sound from the lead guitar chair. He later formed one of the most successful duos in rock history with Kenny Loggins; together Loggins & Messina released a string of hit albums that sold more than 16 million copies and produced enduring songs such as "Your Mama Don't Dance."

Across these chapters Messina has worked as a player, songwriter, arranger, engineer, and producer — roles that require a practical, intimate relationship with instruments and the recording process. That experience gives him a clear understanding of how guitars move through a working musical life: on stages, in studios, across tours, and through the hands of the people who rely on them.

For Gearcheck, Messina's perspective strengthens our focus on creating organized, durable records that respect both the musical and historical life of instruments. We are grateful to have him on the advisory board and look forward to the insight he brings.

Welcome, Jim.

Every record. Every story.
